hey do birds have anything inside their beaks aside from Hard and their tounge or the equivalent to?

General birdie face features:

the beak (chewing, climbing)

image

Tominal Tooth (notch in the beak used to brace seeds to hull easier, aids in ripping and tearing fruits and veg)

image

Cere + Nares (skin above the beak + nostrils) (breathing)

image

Rictal Bristles (for all intents and purposes, nose hairs) (supposed to prevent particles from getting in their eyes, in other species they help in a similar matter that a cat’s whiskers do, they’ve likely just recessed in parrot species as they’re less needed)

image

The Craniofacial Hinge (allows the top mandible to move, both the upper and lower portions of the beak can move unlike people!)

Tongue (which has 5 bones in it! used for manipulating objects, should typically be dry)

Hyoid Aparatus! (tongue bones) (Basihyoid, Stylohyoid, Epihyoid, Keratohyoid, Thyrohyoid)

Choanal Slit (almost impossible to see in most parrots without restraint) (connects the nares to the trachea so they can breath through their nares instead of just through their mouths)

edit: I forgot one neat thing!

Inside the tip of the beak there’s a series of small ridges that are used to grind down food!

…. I’m not sure why, but I did not know bird tongues have bones in them!
