The general ambiance of the Yakuza franchise can be summarized with the Zero sidestory in which Majima gets told about a legendary porn tape that is just so incredibly hot that it can make even those who have become too used to everything to even get randy, get in the mood. The quest giver is the owner of a locale that serves as a location where you watch softcore, as he has become too desensitized, so he’s hoping this legendary tape will get him going again.

Majima promises nothing, but says he’ll keep an eye out. Then, he finds a pale lady in white who keeps stating that she is cold, oh so very cold. Majima figures some piping hot takoyaki oughta get her back on track, so he tells her to matte a second while he goes to fetch it. My man comes back, with the really hot takoyaki you just bought, and gives it to her. She’s finally warm again and gives you a tape. Majima wonders if this is the legendary tape, as rumors say a woman in white had it, so hey, you return with it.

The dude and Majima go to one of the TV rooms and run the video. It’s an actual, for realsies cursed video with ominous content, but the two of them were so eager to see The Best Porn Of Their Life that it just… Flies over their head. They really just don’t give a crap. It doesn’t even register. They are just sad that it was just a non-porn tape. So they just leave. Later, the pale lady outright materializes in the room, but no one’s there anymore. So uh. That’s where it ends. Because there’s no one to curse or to fear the tape, so the curse does nothing.

To summarize, Majima finds a legit The Ring-level cursed video tape, but it fails to harm him in the slightest because he just didn’t care or even notice it was cursed because he wanted a good wank. The supernatural has no influence, bearing, or relevance in the slightest in the main plot of any of the games, much less Majima’s. It’s there, just, in the background and it doesn’t matter at all. Majima then goes back to trying to protect a blind girl that is under danger of being assassinated for real estate.

You can do very stupid things in a serious manner, and very serious things in a stupid manner. That’s the essence of Yakuza. And that’s amore.
