achromic-red-dreams-doze-angrily:
1st Grade Teacher: The Natives taught us to grow crops and we all had thanksgiving!
6th Grade: we might have kicked the Natives off their land, and for that we are so sorry.
Me: but did you mur-
Teacher: you’ll learn that in high school
12th grade: We killed that one Native and we are so sorry, but the BUFFALOS, WE WERE DICKS FOR THAT!!
College: It was genocide.
this…is accurate
Meanwhile Germany:
1st Grade: The German people committed genocide before and during WW2 and everyone alive was responsible and it is your duty to never forget and prevent that from ever happening again
Now watch this horrifying very detailed video so you now exactly what kind of disgusting scum your ancestors were.
~ repeat every year ~
Those Auschwitz videos where people threw famished corpses into mass graves or piled them up into ovens left quite the mental marks, I tell you. Additionally detailed descriptions about Mengele’s experiments on twins and pain tolerances.
Also actually visiting a concentration camp where our guide showed us the tiny cells that were filled with water for the inmates to make their feet rot. And tons of human hair piled in chambers to fill pillows with them or craft rope from.
To think people in my country treated humans like that… I know it happened. But I cannot grasp how humans can be like that.
Once you’re born here basically everyone tells you: “THIS happened. Do NOT forget. Don’t you dare to forget! Do not let this happen again, do you understand?”
You cannot really feel like you’re not responsible. The deep emotional turmoil and utter disgust towards these events are ingrained into your very being as a German.
Maybe Americans should take a note concerning this in terms of past crimes against humanity ☝
Everyone (in Europe at least) know the horror the nazis has caused. Because we insist on that.
Please American accept that some of your ancestors did genocide and teach it to kids.
