A magnificent historic piece

The Swiss watch mechanism before you dates from around 1600CE, and was set into a Colombian emerald crystal before being overlaid with enamel to make an extraordinary composition. It was later buried alongside other precious items by an unknown owner, possibly a royalist jeweller or goldsmith since over 400 diverse pieces were found together in a wooden chest when it was uncovered by workmen digging up a cellar in 1912. The diversity implies a merchant’s working stock.
