More harry potter au’s that show the ways magic can help people with disabilities
In a wheelchair? No need to worry! It moves easily and rolls up stairs smoothly.
Walking with a cane and have trouble with stairs? The castle has your back. Just step on a step and rise to the top of the stairs as the step moves up for you.
Learning disability? Turns out the ravenclaws have a club to help people. Specifically those who have a hard time understanding what they’re supposed to be learning, or who have a hard time concentrating and would never get their homework finished otherwise.
Chronic pain? There are potions specifically to help with that and madame pomfrey always has some on hand
Meltdown? Shutdown? The room of requirement is the perfect place to get a room full of things you need to relax and calm down
Sensory problems? There are some charms that can help with that
Need specific foods? The house elves will make sure your plate is filled with foods you can eat no matter the dietary restrictions. They won’t make anything that could cause an allergic reaction or screw up your digestive system.
Mute? Nonverbal? There are magical quills that can write in the air, and paper that can turn your thoughts into words on as if you were speaking them out loud.
Unable to find your way around places, especially new places? The castle will make sure you go the correct way and always end up at your class.
Hard of hearing? The weasly twins have the device for you (I don’t remember what it’s called but it was originally used to eavesdrop on the order of the phoenix. I’d like to imagine that if you stuck it in your ear it would help you hear whoever’s speaking better)
Deaf? Auditory problems? There’s magical paper that will note down the exact words of whoever is speaking.
Insomnia? Nightmares? There are potions to help with that
Seizures? Just wear a handy dandy magic bracelet that floats you up in the air when you have a seizure so that you don’t get hurt, and instantly alerts madame pomfrey and your head of house
Chronic fatigue? Take a morning potion to maintain the energy you need to get through the day and a night potion to actually receive energy from sleeping.
Narcolepsy? There are potions to prevent you from suddenly falling asleep, and there are charmed necklaces and bracelets to sense and alert you for when you need to take that potion.
Ptsd? Anxiety? A calming charm is helpful, and there are specific rooms around the castle to escape into in the case of a panic attack. Just grab a necklace that you can receive by asking any of the professors and it will teleport you to the nearest one. Don’t worry about losing it because it will always return to your pocket or bag as it is specificially charmed to do so.
Blind? Partially blind? Hagrid can find animals that will happily help you get around the castle. Books can read themselves to you (and can do a magic to only be heard by you). There are also glasses that will magnify words to the exact size you need to be able to read them, and maps that will show you your surroundings.
Need help dressing yourself? Making your bed? Packing? Organizing? Cleaning? Washing yourself? Brushing your hair? Getting into bed? A house elf will be able to do it quickly with magic. Want to do it by yourself? There are tools to help you do that too. You can make things float with magic, there are things that can make you float from one place to another (such as from a wheelchair into bed). Combs and brushes can be charmed to help.
Want to be able to ride a broomstick but are physically unable to? Don’t worry there are broomsticks made for you. There are broomsticks with chairs attached, broomsticks to help with an unsteady or weak grip, broomsticks designed to work with a wheelchair, broomsticks that don’t go very high for those who have a fear of heights, broomsticks that don’t go very fast for those afraid of going too fast and falling off, broomsticks that are very very well attuned to what the flyer wants and needs, and even broomsticks to help you find your way around an area.
Need a schedule to remember things? Or to function properly? Or because schedules are comforting so you know what’s happening? Or for any other reason? Have some specifically charmed notebooks that give you your schedule day by day, check things off once you’ve done them, and change if something unexpected happens and needs to be changed.
Hallucinations? Delusions? There are spells you can use to check the area around you to be able to tell if what you’re seeing, hearing, feeling, tasting, or smelling is real or not. There are also charms and potions to help with hallucinations. For delusions there are items specifically made for you to ground yourself with, charms that help, and spells you can reality check yourself with if you’d like.
I kind of rambled and definitely covered a lot but go ahead and add your own ^^ (also disclaimer: I don’t have every disability I mentioned so if I said something that was ableist or misleading please tell me)
